The State HIV and AIDS Co-ordination Forum, Manipur, a coalition of 14 agencies working in the field of HIV/AIDS and the Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) have called for an urgent response to the possibility of an acute medicine shortage in Manipur.
The Forum reiterated that the unavailability of life saving drugs for people with hypertension, heart related symptoms, diabetes and kidney disorders besides other general medicines is a serious issue and appealed for a solution to the impending health crisis.
The Forum also draws the attention to the necessity of people living with HIV/AIDS to have access to ART drugs, failing which, they will be in a critical situation of developing resistance and even death.
In this regard, the Forum has also appealed to all concerned authorities to take appropriate steps.
The constituent units of the Forum include Catholic Relief Services (CRS); Constella Futures; Orchid, Salvation Army, Clinton Foundation; Centre for Advocacy and Research (CFAR); Medicine Sans Frontiere (MSF), Population Foundation of India (PFI); DKT India, PATH, CARE-India; HIV/AIDS Alliance, Project Concern International (PCI and UNICEF.
