Lamka, August 05: Undeterred by the sully treatment of a perturb Assam Rifle officer in shorts during one of his visit to the rural health facilities, Health Minister Ph Parijat yesterday had a personal date with the district hospital here.

The Minister was here to formally launch the first line treatment for Malaria ACT+ SP undertaken by the National Vector Borne Disease.

Immediately after the inauguration, the minister accompanied by T Manga MLA proceeds to the district hospital and inspects each and every ward of the hundred plus bedded hospital.

He was briefed on the need to initiate a sanctioned casualty department, as the present arrangement was executed by doctors in addition to their normal assignments.

To the surprise of many, the health minister has even entered in one of the toilets embedded to the casualty ward and patiently listens to the students of the nursing school.

He also step inside the congested and already worn out Operation theatre, where in, a woman staff nurse pointed out how badly short they were even on the basic and minimal instruments.

Addressing the media after an exhaustive two and a half hour inspection, the minister has promised to immediately pull up the contractor constructing the newly sanctioned building under the assistance of NEC.

More than four years have elapsed since the building was initiated but not even a third of it has been completed till date.

The high profile visit seems to also charm the contractor as, some laborers could be seen measuring parts of the roofing, otherwise the building was deserted has been deserted by them since February last.

Completing the new building is the only option to address the present woes of the hospital, he told the media.

He also promises to initiate steps to ensure that drugs, atleast the life saving ones, reached the intended people.

"Without the drugs there is no point in running a hospital" he said.

In order to ensure that mosquito nets were provided atleast to those patients from the interior locality, 'the malaria deptt.

will soon be instructed to do the needful,' he adds.

The CT Scan that already lies idle for an impressive period will soon be functional as the power situation improves and engineers to install the instrument will be invited from Guwahati he further assured.

And in order to efficiently manage the hospital a committee under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner has already been instigated, with an initial fund of Rs 5 lakhs he said.

Attracting patients from Bishnupur district and even from Moreh, the district hospital here is without a single ambulance and has only one stretcher.

In papers it has been bestowed with the latest medical technology viz x-ray, ultrasound, CT Scan, Tele medicine etc.

but none of them were functional in reality.

Often, doctors and private laboratory nexus were said to have sometimes influence such pitiable situation.

Against the usual norm, free square meals, mostly sub-standard in this case were provided only twice in a week.

Bed sheets were not provided to the patients and in most cases glucose were seen hanging from a rope sans a proper stand.

Time and again something stands clear in this hospital, whatever is said and written always fall into deaf ears.

Now that the Minister has visited the hospital with a great enthusiasm, the people will surely have something to look forward to.

Something they never expect would become a reality in the hospital.
