125th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot celebrated widely

Imphal, September 30 2021: The 125th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was celebrated widely across the State today.

Many paid homage to the legendary leader and his umpteen contributions were recalled on the occasion.

Lions Club
As a mark of respect to Lamyanba Hijam Irabot on his 125th birth anniversary, the Lions Club of Imphal Greater organized a blood donation camp at JNIMS Blood Bank today.

The blood donation camp was organized under 'One Multiple One Activity' of Lions Clubs of Imphal Greater, Lions Club International 322D in association with Regular Voluntary Blood Donor's Group, Manipur, said a press release by issued by Lions Club of Imphal Greater.

Altogether 34 units of blood were donated by the members of Lions Club of Imphal Greater and Regular Voluntary Blood Donor's Group, Manipur.

President of the club and other key members were also present.

On the occasion of 125th birth anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot, Lions Club of Imphal in association with Lions Club of Imphal North distributed face masks and face shields to frontline workers of Sekmai Nagar Panchayat.

A spokesperson of the club said that the distribution of face masks and shields were taken up with a view to safeguard the health of the sanitary workers and as a service activity of Lions Club International.

President and secretary of both the Lion Clubs, Lion Dr W Gopimohon, Vice District Governor, District 322D, Lion H Manikumar, past district governor along with members if both the Lions Clubs were present on the occasion, said a press release issued by the Club.

Later, the members of the both the clubs planted saplings at Tendongyan as a part of Environment project where around 50 saplings were planted.

In connection with the 125th birth anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot celebration, the Lions Club of Imphal Global distributed edible items to Dewlahland Children Home today.

Janata Dal (United)
Janata Dal (United) Manipur State Unit observed the 125th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot today led by the party president, Hangkhanpao Taithul, at their office located at Hodam Leirak, Tiddim Road.

The event was also attended by many notable party leaders and workers.

UCL
The United Committee Langthabal (UCL) has today felicitated achievers and meritorious students on the occasion of Irabot Day celebration at Langthabal Mantrikhong Mayai Leikai community hall.

The "Meritorious and Appreciation Award Distribution Programme" cum Irabot Day observance was attended by Speaker Y Khemchand; UCL chairman and BIPL managing director, Ningombam Ibochouba; Imphal West ZP Adhyaksha, RK Taruni; Hiyangthang ZP member, Sarangthem Silasana and Langthabal Ningombam Gram Panchayat Pradhan, Nongmeikapam Ongbi Ganga as presidium members.

Floral tributes to Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, appreciation awards to achievers in different activities and fields and meritorious awards to Class X and XII passed students were the highlights of the programme.

Speaking at the occasion, Y Khemchand underscored the importance of education.

He said that education is key in pushing the society forward and to a higher height.

He also lauded UCL, which is an agglomeration of 12 youth, for its efforts towards encouraging students at the occasion and assured of possible help from his end to UCL.

Sapam Kullabi, a renowned Nata Sankritan Pung artiste and Pukhrambam Ibemhal who has earned her name in the field of handloom weaving were also conferred appreciation award by dignitaries present who also later distributed meritorious award to the students.

Youth wing
Youth wing formed under social worker Oinam Romen today observed Irabot Day and recalled the life and works of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot.

The observation programme was organised at the residence of Oinam Romen at Singjamei Oinam Thingel.

It may be noted that the social worker is preparing to contest in the upcoming General Assembly election on NPP ticket in Singjamei Assembly Constituency.

Members of the youth wing also paid floral tributes to the photo of Lamyanba Irabot.

As a part of the observance, the youth wing also visited Yaibilen Destitute Children Home in Keibi Sanapat and distributed edible items and others to the home.

Attending the observation programme, Romen remarked that Irabot was indeed a tall leader.

Irabot was a social activist and a political leader who work for the welfare of the poor and towards bringing an equitable society, he said while adding that the current generation need to follow his footsteps and realise the ideals set by him.

The observation of such a day is significant as the election nears in, said Romen who also reiterated the need for taking the righteous path to win election.

He also appealed to people to refrain from politicians who show up only at the time of election and those who try to woo voters with money and strength.

AIMS
Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) organised 'Lamyanba Hijam Irabot Ningshing Thouram' at its head office at Kwakeithel Girls High School today.

In connection with the event, the 7th Lamyanba Hijam Irabot Ningshing Spot Painting Competition was conducted in three categories namely Category (A) Open, Category (B) Class IX to XII and Category (C) Class V to VIII, said a press release by AIMS.

IMAKHOL
Iramdam Meeyamgi Apunba Khorjei Lup (IMAKHOL) released its half yearly journal "Iraokhol" and a book titled "Mutnaidraba Kanglei Thawanmichak", a collection of poems dedicated to Lamyanba Hijam Irabot and organised the"2nd Lamyanba Hijam Irabot Poets' Meet" on the occasion of Irabot Day.

The programme which was attended by Nongmaithem Kirankumar, convenor, Manipur Language Advisory Board, New Delhi as chief guest; Dr RK Gunachandra Singh, president, IMAKHOL as functional president and Waikhom Ahanjao, former Headmaster and president Mongjam Development Committee as guest of honour.

Former members of IMAKHOL who succumbed to Covid-19 were also honoured by the members present who also paid floral tributes to Lamyanba Hijam Irabot.

In all 42 poets presented their poems dedicated to Hijam Irabot during the programme, said IMAKHOL in a press statement.
