PREPAK keeps faith on UN

Imphal, October 23 2013: Accusing the Government of India of repeatedly misleading the global fraternity despite claiming to be conforming to principles of the United Nations that right to life without subjugation should be upheld by every member Nation, the proscribed PREPAK has conveyed that commemoration of the United Nations Day, which falls tomorrow, continues to embolden armed revolutionary groups to sustain the ongoing campaign for regaining independence.

greeting the people on the occasion of the UN Day (October 24) with the reminder that the global observation is yet another opportunity for all the oppressed people to highlight their respective aspirations to the global guardian of human rights, a statement issued by the outfit's publicity and propaganda assistant secretary Leibakngakpa Luwang said PREPAK had been sustaining the armed campaign on the basis of the UN's objectives and declaration that every group of people deserve peace, progress and welfare for mankind.

Consequent to the World War II exacting heavy human toil and subsequent subjugation of the people by some dominant countries representatives of 14 Nations gathered at St James Palace, London on June 12, 1941 marking the first such assembly of global leaders to lay the foundation of the United Nations, said the PREPAK statement listing the London Declaration-1941, The Atlantic Charter-1941, The Casablanca Conference-1943, The Food and Agricultural Conference-1943, The Moscow Conference-1943, The Teheran Conference-1943, The Breton Woods Conference-1944, The Dumbarton Oak (Washington) Conference-1944, The Yalta (Russia) Conference-1945, Committee of Jurists Meeting (Washington)- 1945 and The San Francisco Conference-1945 as some follow-up events that ultimately led to the formation of the UN on October 24, 1945 after some ratification to earlier resolutions.

Since 1948, October 24 is being observed throughout the world as UN Day, said Luwang adding that one significant development in the UN movement is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948 under which right to independence is upheld regardless of differences in religion, race or ethnicity.

the UN principle of promoting human rights, right to freedom, security, peace, economic and political self determination was clearly underscored by the UN General Assembly's Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, December 14, 1960 .

In sync with the December 1960 declaration for de-colonization in the 20th century, the UN played important roles in freeing the people of Namibia, South sudan, Kosovo, East Timor, Andorra, Amga, Cambodia, Comoros, Croatia etc, from alien rulers, noted the PREPAK statement further stating that UN's continuous crackdown against war crime (genocide) perpetrators testify that mass movement for independence is guaranteed under various charters of the UN.

A recent case of the UN's commitment in protecting the people's right is the intervention in the Syria conflict and destroying chemical weapons following reports about use of unconventional weapons by Syrian authorities, said LeibakNgakpa Luwang.

A number of UN sessions had also adopted several resolutions that justify movement for independence irrespective of political and economic hurdles or backwardness in education.

Along with the International Court of Justice established to address legal aspect of the independence movement by any group of people, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and international Covenant on Civil and Political Rights have provisions under which right to sovereignty are guaranteed to any group of people.

Regretting that the UN principles and resolutions are not being upheld by the Government of India, the outfit accused India of misleading the global community by projecting the freedom movement in Manipur as an internal affair/conflict.

Though India gave its assent to Right to Self Determination in 1979, in reality there is no sign of India complying with the UN guidelines as was evident in the third report to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights in 1995 whereby India insisted that under no circumstance would it accept disintegration of the national territory and that the right should be made applicable to only 'nations under foreign occupation' contrary to the historical fact that Manipur (kangleipak) was an independent nation for centuries before it was forcibly annexed to the Indian Union.

Govt of India's misinterpretation of the legitimate freedom movement and its misleading propaganda would not last long for the truth about Manipur would eventually prevail as various revolutionary groups had been gradually able to convince to global fraternity about the genuineness of the armed struggle here, said the assistant secretary while conveying PREPAK's determination to take the campaign to a logical end.
