Will fight CAB tooth and nail : Rahul Gandhi

Imphal, March 20 2019: All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi has categorically stated that Congress party will never allow passage or enforcement of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) 2016 in the North East region including Manipur.

Rahul Gandhi formally launched Congress party's Lok Sabha campaign in the State at Hapta Kangjeibung, Imphal East today.

Rahul Gandhi arrived here yesterday on a two day visit to the State.

He left for Agartala this afternoon after addressing a public rally at Hapta Kangjeibung.

Speaking at the public rally, the AICC president asserted that Congress party will fight tooth and nail if ever CAB 2016 is tabled in the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha.

Congress party will never allow CAB 2016 to become an Act.

The party would safeguard and uphold the histories, languages and cultures of all the North East States including Manipur.

"We will fight vehemently even if BJP tries to distort and destroy the histories and cultures of the North East region", Rahul Gandhi assured.

Taking a dig at RSS and BJP, the Congress president asserted that these two organisations are two sides of the same coin.

Both RSS and BJP have been conspiring to Hinduise the whole country against the Congress party's commitment to protect histories, cultures and languages of each and every State of the country.

Congress respects and upholds the idea of unity in diversity, he stated.

In case UPA is elected to power, special status removed by BJP from the State of Manipur would be restored and full attention would be given towards speedy development of the State, Rahul Gandhi promised.

Whereas Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been claiming to be a Chowkidar of the country, the same Chowkidar has looted a huge amount of money from the people of the country.

Goods and Services Tax (GST) introduced by the NDA Government is not for the welfare of people.

On the contrary, the NDA Government has lowered the minimum income line, Rahul Gandhi said.

Manipur is a key gateway to many Asian countries but the NDA Government has done nothing in the State even though they have renamed the Look East Policy as Act East Policy.

The NDA Government is not acting at all, he asserted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed that he would provide jobs to two crore unemployed youth within five years but his promise has come to nought at the end of five years.

Moreover, Narendra Modi brought extreme misery to huge majority of the country's population through demonetisation of currency notes, he continued.

If there is a Congress Government at the Centre, a special industrial policy would be formulated so as to ensure rapid economic development of Manipur and the entire North East region and maximum efforts would be invested to see that the Look East Policy is translated into a vibrant, productive policy, said the AICC president.

He asserted that BJP has failed to deliver any of the promises and assurances it made during the last election.

Rahul Gandhi then appealed to all the people in general and Congress supporters in particular to work harder and meticulously so as to teach a befitting lesson to all BJP leaders who are accustomed to telling lies and falsehoods to the masses.
