Street vendors refuse to give in, storm fruit sellers' stalls

Refusing to give up without a fight, street vendors during a meeting held today have decided to pressurise the Government to allot seats to them at the top floors of the three newly constructed buildings of Khwairamband Bazar which are still lying vacant.
The joint meeting held at the community hall of Majorkhul has further demanded implementation of the State policy under the framework of National policy to ensure resolution of the issue of street vendors, construction of a fourth market at the site of temporary market sheds as announced by the UPA chairman Sonia Gandhi during her last visit to the State, construction of an underground parking lot underneath the proposed fourth market to solve the problem of parking vehicles and release of all the arrested street vendors without any condition.
On the other hand, taking serious note over the alleged discriminatory attitude of the Government in allowing the fruit sellers in Dharamshala area to continue with their trade, a large number of agitating women street vendors agitating women street vendors, who have been evicted from Khwairamband Bazar, today descended and stormed the area.

The agitating women street vendors demanded the fruit sellers, who are mostly non-locals, with whose permission they are continuing their trade.
Announcing ban on plying any sort of trade in the area with immediate effect, the agitating women street vendors directed the fruit sellers to pack up.
Afterward, police swooped down on the agitating women street vendors and chased them out.
The meeting also decided to launch a series of intense agitation with the support of National Association of Street Vendors of India and other civil organisations if the State Government tries to sideline the issue of street vendors.
