UT dies in custody

Imphal, April 15 2025:
A 27-year-old under-trial prisoner, Khoisnam Sanajaoba, died in judicial custody on April 13 at JNIMS Casualty.
Sanajaoba, s/o Gandhi of Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai, was arrested on March 31 along with four other persons for their alleged involvement with the underground outfit KCP Noyon (MLF) from Sawombung Thongkhong.
He was remanded to judicial custody at Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa on April 10 .
After three days in judicial custody, he was admitted to JNIMS for treatment and passed away.
The locals of Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) and held a protest demonstration, demanding justice, arrest of those responsible, and transparency in the investigation yesterday.
The JAC cautioned that they will take up various forms of intensified agitations if their demands are not fulfilled.
Meanwhile, the post mortem of Sanajaoba was conducted at JNIMS mortuary in the presence of JAC members and Executive Magistrate of Imphal East with full video coverage today.
The corpse has been deposited again at the mortuary and Porompat police station have registered a case.
