Condemning the bomb attack on August 11 and the various assaults on the people and its township earlier by the 'valley based undergrounds,' the student bodies of Churachandpur calls for cleansing of such armed groups and their accomplices.
A joint press statement issued by Churachandpur District Students' Union, Kuki Students' Organisation/CCpur, Zomi Students' Federation, Hmar Students' Association and Mizo Zirlai Pawl remarks that the August 11 incident 'is not the first of its kind, not I likely to be the last.
As, the township has already witness New Year Gift in 2003, 2004, 2005 etc in the form of terror acts from the valley based UGs operating in the district, it adds.
The infamous rape cases of Parbung and T Phaojol besides the death and destruction from landmines by the same group are still afresh in minds of the public, it went on lamenting.
Based on these backdrops, the student bodies calls on the people to stop those who regarded them as enemy, even if the government fails to do so and maintain peaceful co-existence.
'Let us defend our basic rights to life' it proclaimed.
And, in pursuance of their objective the student bodies has present a memorandum calling on the state government 'to root-out all the valley based UGs with their sympathizers' from the district and 'to initiate steps and measures latest by 17th August 2007'.If the people were compel to do whatever steps it deems necessary to stop the unabated occurrences of killing, injuring and raping incidences in Churachandpur district, by failing to meet their demands within the stipulated time, the State Govt will be held responsible for any untoward incident, it further forewarn.
