Imphal, April 08 2024: Claiming that the Government carrying out recruitment processes has violated the election code of conduct, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manipur.

Congress leaders led by MPCC president K Meghachandra submitted the complaint with the CEO at Lamphelpat.

In the complaint, MPCC urged the CEO to stop/halt the recruitment processes to fill vacancies in various departments of the Government.

It alleged that the recruitments may be used by the BJP to their advantage in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections.

The complaint stated that recruitment processes are being carried out to fill vacancies in 13 departments of the Government including Sericulture, Police, Forest, Agriculture, Education (S), AYUSH, Minor Irrigation, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, MSPCL, IT and Communication.

After submitting the complaint with the CEO Manipur, MPCC Legal Department's vice chairman Advocate Rabi Khan said as the elections' model of conduct is enforced in the State, there shouldn't be any recruitment processes.

While the notifications for recruitment were out before the model code of conduct was put in place, the recruitment processes, however, should be stopped at this juncture, he said.

The election code of conduct was enforced in Manipur on March 16 by the Election Commission of India.

Rabi Khan claimed that the recruitments are a tool being used by the BJP to get votes in the Lok Sabha elections.

The State has around 7-8 lakh unemployed youths.

The youths, in the hope of getting jobs, are enrolling for the recruitments through Employment Exchange offices.

However, when the model code conduct is enforced, such recruitments should be stopped, he said.

In addition to the complaint filed today, on April 2, MPCC had also filed a complaint with the CEO to stop recruitment for filling 1140 Pre-Primary teachers' posts in the Education Department, he said.

Rabi Khan said the recruitment to fill vacancies in the Departments should be held when the elections are over and the model code of conduct isn't effective.

Further, there is information about some Departments and office bearers of some autonomous bodies distributing money and edible materials to voters.

Additional information is being gathered on this and a complaint will be soon filed with the CEO regarding this, he said.

Yesterday at Chingmeirong, an elderly woman of 85 was approached by workers of a political party promising her money to buy fishes.

A complaint has been filed regarding this incident and CEO Manipur has assured appropriate actions, Rabi said.

He further stated that the MPCC is anticipating a response soon regarding its complaint about the gathering of people in front of CM's bungalow.
