Development of tourist spots underway : Lukhoi 'Candidate' hardsells Ministerial post

Imphal, October 04 2020: Newly inducted Tourism Minister Oinam Lukhoi has stated that the Government has been working to develop and renovate new tourist spots and existing ones using better technology and design so as to make them more attractive to tourists.

Speaking at the inaugural function of a community hall at Govindagram Maning Leikai at Wangoi today, O Lukhoi said that Manipur is known for its natural beauty, salubrious climate, delicious cuisines and rich cultural heritage.

Yet, the State's tourism sector could not achieve much progress during the past decades due to law and order problems and other issues, he said.

As the law and order situation has improved considerably, the Government has started development of tourist spots using better technology and design.

While some tourism projects have been already sanctioned, some other projects are currently in the process of preparing DPR, Lukhoi said.

An amount of Rs 50 lakh each has been reflected in the budget for development of tourist destinations or eco-parks in the 60 Assembly segments of the State.

Out of this Rs 50 lakh, Rs 20 lakh should be contributed by each MLA out of their Local Area Development Fund, he said.

Out of Rs 60 crore sanctioned by the Central Government for supplying potable water to the people of Wangoi AC under Jal Jeevan Mission, Rs 3 crore is meant for Govindagram, he said.

Lukhoi said that maximum efforts would be invested to see that all the water supply projects are completed before the general election of 2022 .

"It has been quite a long time since Wangoi AC has been deprived of a Minister.

It is up to the people of the Assembly segment whether I should remain a Minister for the next 16 months and further or not", he said.

"If any other person is elected from Wangoi AC in my place, the newly elected representative would find a seat in the State Assembly, but he/she would not find any place in the Council of Ministers", Lukhoi continued.

Wangoi BDO M Bungba and Lairenjam Meijrao GP Pradhan Tongbram Manglemba were also present at the inaugural function.
