World boxing champion Pukhrambam Narajit has been accorded a hero's welcome by the people of the State when he arrived at homeland Manipur today.
Narajit clinched the title of the World boxing champion in the 4th World Military Games held at Hyderabad from October 14 to 21.Thunderous cheers and hand claps greeted Narajit as he emerged from the arrival lobby of the Imphal Tulihal Airport.
Overwhelmed by the reception, an emotionally chocked Narajit promised to bring Gold medal if he gets the chance to participate in Olympics, 2008 scheduled to be held at Beijing.
Apart from the jostling flags waving massive crowd that waited for him with garlands in hands at the Airport, people from all walks of life came out to greet him all along the roads through which the vehicle carrying Narajit passed through before being taken to his birthplace Nambol Sabal Leikai where a mass reception function was organised in his honour at the local Public Hall.
The reception function was organised jointly by Nambol Sabal Leikai Youth Club and Library and Armstrong Boxing Assn.
Born on May 1, 1985, Pukhrambam Narajit is the third son of Pukhrambam Joychandra and Pukhrambam Ongbi Nalini of Nambol Sabal Leikai.
He is presently working as an ASI in 11 Gorkha Regimental Centre.
Earlier in his sporting career, Narjit had won many medals in various championships.
He won the Silver medal in the 1st Indian Inter Zonal Boxing Championship held at Mumbai in 2005 and Gold Medal in the 54 weight category of the 10th Rajiv Gandhi Federation Cup held at Hyderabad in May 2006.He also won a Silver medal at the 29th King' Cup held at Bangkok from April 4 to 11 this year.
