Gelnel Hydro-power plant delay upsets KIM

Kanggui, February 27 2014 : The Kuki Inpi Manipur has expressed discontentment in the strongest term against the Government of Manipur for alleged lack of initiative and commitment to complete the Gelnel hydro-power plant.

It is very unfortunate to find that construction work of Hydro Power Generation at Gelnel remains incomplete after so many years of its launch, said KIM secretary Khaimang Chongloi adding "we are not happy with the Government not able to complete construction work of the power plant" .

KIM urged authority concerned to complete the construction work of the said Hydro Power plant at the earliest and initiate every possible steps for early utilization of the plant.

KIM members along with its Sadar Hills unit representatives visited Twilang area, commonly known as IT Road in Sadar Hills west yesterday under a KIM tour programme.

A public meeting at Gelnel village community hall was also jointly hosted by Kuki Inpi Twilang Block and Kuki Chiefs' Association Twilang Block.

Apart from the general public more than 350 leaders including village chiefs and CSOs functionaries of the block attended the meeting.

KIM president Thangkhosei Haokip spoke on "Chief and Village administration" while general secretary Khaimang Chongloi detailed the gathering on KIM Work Programming and Finance Policy at the meeting.

The meeting resolved to promote the custom, culture and dresses of the Kukis and to abide by the resolution taken by Kuki Inpi Assembly.

The meeting also resolved to live and settle solidly in their respective dwelling places and humbly pay the Kuki Inpi General Fund accordingly.

After the meeting the visiting team accompanied by the local Inpis and CSOs inspected the Hydro Power Generation plant being developed by the Government at Gelnel village and were visibly upset to discover that the power plant is yet to be completed though the construction started many years back.

KIM and its delegates also paid a visit to the new Zoupi village which has been established after the original village had been completely destroyed by the NSCN-IM during 'their ethnic cleansing' in 1993 and also paid tribute, to those mercilessly killed, at the memorial site developed in their memory.

KIM appealing to the people of the Kuki community to extend cooperation and support in its tour programme in all Kuki inhabited areas in Manipur said that it will tour and organise public meetings at various Kuki inhabited areas in the future also.
