Even as fast unto death agitation being launched by All Manipur Government Aided College Co-ordinating Committee (AMGACCC) completed one week, students of various educational institutions staged Wakat Meephams all over Imphal East and West District today expressing solidarity to the demand for restoration of normal classes in Government Aided Colleges and unconditional release of the arrested student leaders from the jail immediately.
Along the Tiddim Road, students of Jim Higher Secondary School, Herbert School, HRD Academy, BIM Higher Secondary School, Mem Higher Secondary School, etc demonstrated in support of the demand of the aided college students and release of arrested student leaders.
Students of Tera Boys High School, Kebol Girls' High School, London Academy and Kanhai Higher Secondary School staged the Wakat Meepham at Tera Keithel.
At Kongba Emoinu Keithel, students of Suraj Rare Flower School and Laishram Mani Memorial Academy jointly participated in the protest demonstration.
At PDA Complex, Porompat, students of School of Nursing (Khabeisoi), Nightingale Nursing Institute and Royal School of Nursing jointly staged the demonstration.
Students of Brajalal Institute of Sciences (Moirangkhom) also staged similar Wakat Meepham even as students of the schools from Kakwa side like of Elite Senior Secondary School, International School of Resources, Albert School, etc and US Academy, Singjamei also participated in the demonstration.
Students of Remnant Christian School (Lamshang), Praja High School, Public Girls' High School (Lamdeng Khunou) and RDO (Lamshang) also staged Wakat Meepham today.
Meira Paibis of Lairenkabi area also staged similar demonstration.
Announcing that the fast unto death agitation being launched by AMGACCC has completed one week today despite dispersal of the agitators by the police on earlier two occasions, Committee secretary Nillababu Oinam has categorically stated that they would continue with the stir until the demand for release of the arrested colleagues and student leaders is fulfilled.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Govt Aided College Teachers' Association (AMGACTA) flayed the Government for prolong detention of the arrested striking teachers and student activists despite a memorandum of understanding having signed on September 14 for resumption of normal classes in the aided colleges.
As the arrested teachers and students have not been released by the Government, normal academic atmosphere in the Government Aided Colleges could not be restored and the effort to resume normal classes and conduct extra classes to cover up the syllabus has come to nought, AMGACTA president A Moirangjao Singh rued in a statement.
Kakching College Students' Union has also urged the Government for early release of the arrested teachers and students from the jail so that normal classes could resume in aided colleges.
