A mobile team under the command of assistant central administrative officer of the KYKL have rounded up three persons who were trying to extort money from the people by impersonating themselves as cadres of KRA and KLA.
The three imposters identified as Laishram Naobi (17) of Moirangpurel Phura Makhong, Konthoujam Ranjit (26) of Moirangpurel Makha Leikai and Seikhohou Khongsai of L Molnom were paraded before mediapersons somewhere in Imphal East district today.
Speaking at the occasion, a spokesperson of the outfit informed that Ranjit duplicated letter heads of the proscribed KRA outfit with the help of computer at Bhavna Computer Centre located at Chingmeirong and the same was used for serving monetary demand letter of Rs 2 lakhs to one Chirom Mani of Khurai Lamlong.
The computer used for duplicating the letter head of KRA has been seized and the centre owned by one Bega Sharma of Laipham Khunou has been sealed for two months with immediate effect, the spokesperson said.
Besides this, the trio had already taken Rs 30,000 out of Rs 4 lakhs demanded from one Konsam Ibo residing near Porompat Water Supply the spokesperson disclosed while identifying two other accomplices of the trio as Thounaujam Bheigo of Moirangpurel Awang Leikai and Daosei of Molnom.
They have also allegedly served a demand letter of Rs 5 lakhs in the name of KLA to an Anganwadi centre and a Self Help Group at Lamlong, the spokesperson added.
All the rounded up three imposters would be handed over to their respective family members after giving proper advice.
However, if they were found indulging in such extortion activities in future, they would be given severe punishment including capital punishment, the spokesperson warned sternly.
