Imphal, June 25 2015 :
Meetei Youth Front (MYF), South East Asia and International Meetei Forum (IMF) have said that they will impose counter-blockade as long as ATSUM continues its blockade.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, MYF-SEA president Ng Mangal said that they would intensify their counter-blockade by covering some other roads as well.
He further said that they are also planning to take out a rally and stage relay hunger strike against the ongoing blockade clamped by ATSUM on National Highways.
Ng Mangal said that the two bodies would conduct a public meeting to discuss whether ATSUM must be allowed to run its office in Imphal or not.
He said that as ATSUM has been clamping blockades from time to time since the past many years which give lots of hardship to the general public, different sections of people have questioned why ATSUM is allowed to run its office in Imphal.
Ng Mangal said that representatives of different civil society organisations would also take part in the public meeting.
He said that various hill based student bodies and civil society organizations do not support the ongoing blockade as it is allegedly being clamped in the interest of a particular section of people.
Ng Mangal questioned why ATSUM plays divide and rule policy among various communities which have been residing together in the State.
IMF president RK Rajendro said that they are not against ATSUM's legitimate demands.
However, demand for handing over land records strongly indicates presence of political influence in the ongoing stir, he observed.
Maintaining that the demand is not acceptable at all, RK Rajendro urged the State Government to take a decision regarding the matter by studying the sentiments of all sections of people of the State.
Regarding the matter, they would submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister on June 27, he said.
