Imphal, September 21 2010: As in other parts of the world International Day of Peace was observed today at Kuki inn on the theme 'IDP and role of youth'.

The observance held under the aegis of United Religions Initiative Cooperation Circle (URICC), Manipur was attended by Padmashree RK Jhalajit, president of Manipur URICC M Ibohal Singh (Radhamohan Das) and secretary (MBC) Rev Vumthang Sitlhou as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Delivering the key-note address, URICC co-ordinator L Sadananda Singh said on the global scale the observation is being held on this day since 2002 while in Manipur today's event marks the fifth observance.

Highlighting that there are nine religions which people in Manipur follows, he stated that inspite of religious diversity aspiration and desire of the masses are the same and that is to bring peace in the State.

apart from abjuring violence being an essential component to promote peace, it is equally important that all the people enjoy proper food and shelter.

Sadananda also stressed on the need for listening to grievances of others rather than imposing will and concept of an individual.

Speaking at the occasion, RK Jhalajit said 'to live together in this world, we need peace, if there is no peace then living together will have no meaning'.

He also advised that only through unity, love and harmony would it be possible to usher an era of peace in Manipur.

In his address, Radhamohan Das recounted that IDP is being observed throughout the world after the United nations General Assembly designated September 21 as a day for abstaining from acts of violence.

He also informed that the UN actually passed a resolution in 1981 for the observance to be held on every third Tuesdays of September month before September 21 was set aside as a permanent date for the event in 2002.The religious leader also conveyed to the youths message of the UN Secretary General to contribute their mite in the peace building mission and its expansion.

The secretary General is informed to have cautioned that only through promotion of peace throughout the world would be young people attain their goal of living in a tranquil environment under which their aim and aspiration could blossom.
