Imphal, February 20 2022: Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal has categorically stated that the Congress party is responsible for turning Manipur into a conflict zone.

The statement was made by the Union Minister at the flag hoisting ceremony of BJP candidate Dr Usham Deben held at 36-Wabagai Assembly Constituency today.

Speaking on the occasion, he stated that the Congress is a corrupt party that spread propaganda and turned Manipur into a conflict zone.

During the Congress administration, the state of roadways and bridges were abysmal but with the arrival of the double engine BJP Govt, Manipur has witnessed fast paced development in terms of roadways as well as several schemes undertaken by the BJP Govt for the welfare of the people, he said.

Taking all these initiatives and progress into account, he urged the people to ensure the continuation of the BJP Govt in the State.

The Union Minister also lauded the State and its people, saying that the youth of Manipur are multi-talented while the women are brave and hard working.

He also touched upon the excellence of Manipuris in the field of sports and added that the Prime Minister had gifted the Sports University for this very reason.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh also addressed the gathering and declared that with this State Assembly election, the BJP will set up the next Government without forming coalitions with any other political parties.

He further stated that the BJP Govt in the State had accomplishments in many fronts where the Congress Party had failed in their 30-year administration.

The CM further reminded the people of the free vaccinations provided by the Govt to over 135 crore people and the distribution of essential commodities in the midst of the pandemic and stated that the people ought to vote for the BJP in return as a show of gratitude.

He also urged the people to ensure that the Congress does not return to power stating that during the Congress rule, only 6 out of every 100 households had access to clean tap water while the BJP Govt has successfully provided water supply to 64 out of every 100 households.

The CM appealed to the people to cast their votes in favour of the BJP and not sell their votes for money.

President of BJP Manipur Pradesh, A Sharda Devi also spoke on the occasion and stated that the Congress party must be held responsible for the problem of unemployment among youths in the State.

She continued to say that PM Narendra Modi has taken up measures to solve this problem with Start Up, Stand Up and Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan schemes.

A Sharda Devi asserted that no other party is as dedicated towards working for the welfare of the people as the BJP is and appealed for people's support in the ensuing State Assembly election.

The flag hoisting ceremony was also attended by Union Ministers Pratima Bhoumik, Bhupender Yadav, Sambit Patra, Rajya MP Leisemba Sanajaoba, former MLA Y Surchandra, BJP Wabagai Mandal president Maibam Nabachandra, film actor RK Kaiku, singer Naba Volcano and Uttam and other important BJP leaders.

Separately, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also attended an event at Ithing Community Hall organised by BJP Thanga Mandal today to interact with the residents of 28-Thanga AC.

Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister stated that efforts would be made to lift the restrictions placed on fishermen as per the Manipur Loktak Lake Protection Act of 2006 .

He said that Loktak Lake will be upgraded to become a world class tourist destination.

This will also lead to employment generation, he stated.

Further, measures will be taken up for the welfare of the people residing at the periphery of the lake, he shared.
