Having triumphed in the recently held elections to the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly from Andro assembly constituency while in detention in Tihar Jail enthusiastic Andro villagers are waiting for their chosen representative Thounoujam Shyamkumar to arrive home.
Shyamkumar is likely to be released today (mar 17) following intimation from the State's Assembly Secretariat to Tihar Jail authorities to ensure the MLA join proceedings of the State assembly session that commenced yesterday.
Shyamkumar (41) of Yairipok Yambem in Imphal east district was apprehended along with two alleged functionaries of the banned UNLF from IGI airport, New Delhi while they were about to board a Katmandubound flight on October 2 last year and since then has been lodged in judicial custody in Tihar jail.
He is charged of being a sympathizer of banned organisations.
Though the MLA elect was released on bail by Delhi High Court on March 14 he is still lodged in the judicial custody as some formalities were yet to be completed.
While he was in prison, Shyamkumar won the election by a margin of over 13,000 votes from his nearest rival candidate, on Manipur People's Party ticket .
A softspoken Th Binoy, father of the MLA expressed "I have not seen him since the last five months.
now that he has been elected I am longing to see his victorious face.
People of Andro have become increasingly inquisitive about his release and arrival." He has done all good things for the welfare of the constituency and he will definitely complete his unfinished developmental tasks after his election, the father exuded confidence.
The Assembly secretariat had already issued summon notices to the Tihar Jail authority to allow Shyamkumar participate in the first session of the assembly.
Konthoujam Neelkomol Singh, election agent of Shyamkumar and chairman of Andro Kendra Development Committee said the MLA elect might be released from Tihar jail today (March 17) as the release orders from two courts one from Imphal and the other from Shillong � have been dispatched to New Delhi.
"Workers, well wishers and supporters of our candidate have been repeatedly inquiring about his release," Neelkomol conveyed.
"We have tentatively planned to a hold grand reception of our winning MLA on Sunday if at all he is released today.
According to the plan there would be a three-tier reception � one at Imphal airport, another at the MPP office and the last at his residence," he informed.
MPP president Dr L Chandramani Singh said, "We are also anxiously waiting for his arrival.
Shyamkumar needs to take oath of office and secrecy as MLA before he join the first session of the assembly." Sources in the assembly said the govt would only foot TAs and DAs for MLAs on their movement from their residences upto the assembly secretariat during the sessions.
