Imphal, November 14 2014 :
Apart from endorsing the Government's plan to set up National Sports University at Yaithibi Khunou village, Thoubal district, a Cabinet meeting held today resolved to acquire 442.27 acres of land from the village and reserve it as institutional area.
The State Cabinet also gave its consent to acquire 400.631 acres of land from Kakching Khullen and Laijing, and reserve them as industrial zone, conveyed Government spokesman and CAF&PD Minister M Okendro.
As decided by the Cabinet meeting, old age pension given by Social Welfare Department would be done in the form of cash payment to the beneficiaries directly.
Of the total 442.27 acres set to be acquired by the Government at Yaithibi Loukon, 376.2 acres are patta land while 66.07 acres are khasland.
Yaithibi Loukon is the first choice for the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for setting up the National Sports University.
Instead of setting up a timber park at Kakching Khullen, the area would be declared as a special economic zone.
For this, Settlement Department has identified 400.631 acres of land.
These include 233.266 acres of pattaland and 167.365 acres of khasland.
Another resolution adopted by the Cabinet meeting was to shift the office of the Imphal Municipal Corporation near Lamphel Super Market, Okendro stated.
