The Sangai Express (Manipuri edition) scribe Raza Thongkhongmayum has been honoured with a journalists' award in recognition of his constructive writings in the field of arts and culture by Progressive Voluntary Organisation.
The award was presented at the opening function of Khunung Eshei Festival, organised under the aegis of Department of Art and Culture at MDU today.
Retired Programme Executive of AIR Imphal, Ningthoujam Lokendrajit and JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO senior vice-president B Ghanashyam Sharma were the chief guest and president respectively.
Ningthoujam Lokendrajit while speaking at the occasion exhorted the people of current generation to preserve and promote the age-old art forms and culture of the State.

Saying that All India Radio, Imphal has been taking active part in the preservation of old art forms, Lokendrajit said that the Imphal station has a rich archives of Khunung Eshei, Khulang Eshei, Khongjom Parva and other cutural art forms of different communities.
Any culture and folk enthusiast can do research through these archives, he added.
In his speech, B Ghanashyam mentioned about the need for protection of arts and culture.
Saying that khunung eshei (Manipuri folk song) provides significant clues about the ancient history of Manipur, Ghanashyam said that people of the current generation must not ignore folk songs.
