Ukhrul, June 04 2015 :
The Village Authority of Lunghar has vehemently refuted the charges that supporters of one Independent candidate HS Ngamsung allegedly overpowered the voters and captured the Lunghar polling stations A & B (11/5 & 11/6) of 11-Khamasom DCC during the MHAADC polls held on June 1 last.
"Which is why the demand for repoll of the said two polling booths by supporters of the other contending candidates of the said constituency was politically motivated and uncalled-for," asserted LW Leising head'of Lunghar village during a press conference held at Viewland on Thursday evening.
Clarifying on the alleged barring of entry of polling agents of other candidates, he said that on the day of polling around 5: 30 am he himself reminded all the agents to report latest by 6: 30 am over the loud speaker but they failed to turn up on their own.
He further maintained that as per the May 4 resolution adopted by the village authority, it was agreed that Lunghar villagers should collectively support a consensus candidate whosoever would contest the election.
"But when the candidate turned out in the person of Ngamsung, hordes of the villagers split into different groups," he countered.
Regarding the alleged assault of rival parties workers, the head'said that to find out the truth of the whole episode the village authority has served explanation call to all the victims and the local authority is yet to ascertain the facts.
But even then these incidents, if they ever occurred, are not related to the polls.
Meanwhile, VA Secretary Th Khaso said that there was no untoward incidents at the two booths on the voting day, adding that even the Megistrate and the concerned presiding officers have officially recorded that the polls were peacefully conducted in the said stations.
He then lamented that the chaotic development that unfolded in the village was unfortunate, while adding that the village authority is looking for means to bring peace in the village.
