To promote the indigenous martial arts traditions of the ethnic communities of the State complete with all its complexities, a four day seminar cum workshop on "Spiritual and physical dimensions of Manipuri Martial Arts will be held from August 9 to 12 .
Addressing the media today at the complex of the Art and Culture Department today, the vice chairman of the body which is going to organise the event, Prof Lokendra Arambam said that during the four day workshop intricate details and finer aspects of the martial arts of the people of China, Japan, Myanmar and other countries will be discussed amongst the participants.
The seminar cum workshop will be jointly organised by the Indira Gandhi Centre for Art (New Delhi), Manipur University, State Department of Education (S) and (U), SCERT, State Department of Youth Affairs and Sports and MEESHIKHOL.
The primary objective of the seminar cum workshop is to bring together all the 30 masters in various martial art forms of Manipur so that these arts may be given a scientific touch and introduced in the school syllabi from the primary level to the university level, said A Lokendra.
It is also imperative that these arts are made to move with the time so that it can be introduced as a scientific discipline.
Each master may teach their students their specific expertise and after gathering all these together a common approach may be worked out to introduce the State's indigenous martial arts at the primary level, mooted Prof Lokendra.
This the point that the seminar cum workshop will focus on, he added.
The seminar cum workshop will be opened by the Governor and representatives of other countries such as China, Japan, Thailand, Myanmar and Korea are expected at the opening ceremony.
Invitation cards have already been sent but the final words are being awaited, said Prof Arambam Lokendra.
