Imphal, August 21 2014:
Volunteers of JCILPSSW seized bakery items, which are hazardous to health, from different backeries and set them on fire today.
Speaking to reporters, Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System Student's Wing (JCILPSSW) convenor M Angamba said that during a raid conducted at Ruhel Bakery, Dilwar Bakery, Shri Krishna Bakery, Baba Ganesh Bakery and Special Cake Bakery, located at Nagamapal and Lalambung areas, it was found that some of the bakeries stocked their items even inside latrine.
He said, the revelation would turn one's stomach as popular bakery items were found scattered on unclean floor.
These bakeries also use spoiled and dirty jaggery and material to prepare their products, he said and added that it was also found that bakery items were found stocked at dirty places and even inside latrine.
Angamba added that many expired items were also found re-packaged with new date and baked again to supply to market.
JCILPSSW, in association with Youth Voluntary Organisation, set the seized items afire at Kangjabi Leirak Meinam Leikai.
Saying that all the bakeries did not have necessary licence Angamba said it is unfortunate that unhealthy and hazardous practice is prevalent in the preparation of eatable items.
Blaming the Government for all these mess, Angamba said that bakery owners, mostly non-locals, do not abide by the guidelines of Food Safety as the Government has not looked into the matter.
He further cautioned that JCILPSSW would not hesitate to protest in collaboration with other organisations if the Government fails to take up necessary measures to check the menace.
