Man kills self after attacking wife, son

Imphal, May 20 2020: In a shocking incident, a man in his late 50s allegedly attacked his wife and 5-year-old son before shooting himself dead at Dewlahland yesterday.

The incident happened at a rented room at Dewlahland near "Kid School street" at around 8.20 pm yesterday.

The family originally hailed from Lamlai Khunou in Kamjong district and were staying at the rented room at Dewlahland.

According to sources familiar with the incident, the man identified as KS Ramthing (57), a peon at Tribal Research Institute, Chingmeirong, allegedly beat his wife, Pemiwon Kashung, 40 brutally before taking his own life.

Pemiwon, who was bleeding escaped the room and cried for help to save her five year old son stuck inside the room with her husband.

As some of the neighbours rushed to help, the husband had already shut the door from inside, the sources said.

After sometime, they heard a gunshot from inside the room and informed police, said the sources.

Imphal West district police arrived and broke down the door and found Ramthing bleeding on ground.

The police also recovered a blood stained pistol from the scene.

Police then rescued the boy and admitted him at Raj Medicity.

The boy had injury mark on his neck and was found lying unconscious on the bed.

The wife, Pemiwon was also admitted at the same hospital, added the sources.

Meanwhile, the lifeless body of the husband has been handed over to family members after post mortem at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, said a source.

A case has been registered and investigation is on, said police.
