Imphal, September 06 2011:
Staff and students of DOEACC, Imphal today staged a sit-in-protest at its Akampat complex today decrying monetary demand of various UG groups.
It is said that over the last couple of months, as many as seven UG groups have demanded payment of certain percent from the monthly salaries of the staff.
Some of the UG groups have also reportedly issued threats on the staff in this regard.
Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, an official of the Centre pointed out that the DOEACC, Imphal is 22 years old today and it is the fifth such institute in the whole country and the first in the North East region.
The monetary demands of the UGs have come about at a time when the Union Ministry of Information Technology has put a cap on the fund provided, payment of monthly salary of the teachers has been pending for the last five months and there is the problem of electricity and water in the institute, the official said, adding that the staff have not received their monthly pay as the Ministry had notified that no fund other than that of infrastructural development would be provided.
Unlike in other States, the DOEACC Centre at Imphal has been charging minimal fee from the students and taking up free training programmes for SC/ST candidates and women, the official informed, and explained that the sit-in-protest demonstration has been staged to appeal for withdrawal of the monetary demand and help in maintaining a proper academic atmosphere in the institute.
