CM Biren assures COCOMI farmers wing

Imphal, July 23 2024: A team of COCOMI Farmers' Wing met with the chief minister on Tuesday during which the latter assured of honouring their demands at the earliest.

Addressing media persons at its Lamphelpat office, here, on Tuesday, convenor K Thoiba K Thoiba said that the Wing representatives discussed difficulties besieging the farmer community and urged the chief minister to provide adequate security cover to support agricultural activities, compensate all farmers affected by the violence, provide adequate fertilizers, and address delay in supplying paddy seedlings by relevant department.

He also mentioned that the chief minister informed them of directing the DCs and relevant departments to investigate the issues along with assuring expediting the process for paying compensation to the farmers and discussion of the same in the next cabinet meeting.

Farmers who had not submitted proposals for compensation will be re-surveyed and given another opportunity to submit their claims.

Additionally, the chief minister guaranteed that farmers would receive adequate supplies of fertilizers, he said.
