Bidya's death: JAC, Lup vow stir; two jailed, four in police custody

Apunba Lup Ningthoukhong has announced that various forms of intense agitations would be launched until those involved in the killing of RK ningol Laishram ongbi Bidya Devi are brought to justice.
Addressing media persons at Ningthoukhong Bazar on Sunday, Lup chairman Dr IS Konthoujam lamented that authority concerned has not been able to bring out anything concrete in connection with the controversial death of Bidya till date.
"The post mortem report is also not clear.
The culprits have not been identified and as such the family has not claimed the body of Bidya".
Stating that he has full faith that the chief minister and the YAS minister would translate their assurance given to the JAC into action very soon, Dr IS Konthoujam said that the JAC wants befitting punishment to those involved in the killing of Bidya.
The police need to speed up the investigation so as to submit the charge sheet and take up necessary actions against the culprits.
Lup convenor Nungshibabu Heishnam, who also took part in the press conference, organised jointly by the JAC and Apunba Lup Ningthoukhong, said that the post mortem report is not clear.
The marks found on the body of Bidya clearly indicated that her death was not a case of suicide but a murder.
It is unfortunate that the brother of Rocky (Bidya's husband) and his wife have been left out from the investigation process of the police.
He also appealed to all concerned including the public and CSOs to support the agitations being launched by the JAC and Apunba Lup.
Meanwhile, meira paibi groups of Ningthoukhong organised a sit n protest at Ningthoukhong bazar holding black flags.
In connection with the death of Bidya Devi, the court of CJM Imphal West remanded her inlaws to judicial custody while her husband, two sister-in-laws and niece-in-law will remain in police custody.
On Saturday, the IO of the case produced Bidya's father-in-law Laishram Tomba (78) and mother-in-law Laishram Achoubi (72) of Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai, who Were arrested by Imphal PS, before the court under strict security measures.
According to the IO's report, Bidya's elder sister filed a complaint to the OC of Imphal PS, stating that the complainant made a phone call to her younger sister on April 22 around 10 am but the latter did not pick up the phone.
The complainant then called Bidya's husband Rocky but he said that Bidya will pick up the phone when she feels like it and then cut the call.
After making call multiple times, Rocky answered his phone around 12.08 pm and informed that Bidya hanged herself to death.
The complainant further stated that Bidya had video called her family around 5.30 pm on April 21, informing that she had been brutally beaten up by Rocky, his sister Onita and Onita's daugther Bhumika, while also showing the injuries.
Bidya called her family again around 8.40pm requesting them to come with police and pick her up.
Rocky had reportedly beaten up her sister many times in the past, and as such, Bidya was killed by her husband and his family.
In connection with the incident, Imphal PS registered an FIR and arrested Laishram Rocky (33), his parents Tomba and Achoubi, his sister Laishram ningol Thiyam ongbi Sarita (38) w/o Binodkumar of Tera Lukram Leirak, another sister Laishram Omita (52) w/o Ranjit of Nachou Maning Leikai presently residing at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai, and his niece Laishram Bhumika (21).All six were produced in the court on April 22 and remanded to police custody till April 29 for interrogation purposes.
The IO then made a prayer to the court to remand Rocky's parents Tomba (78) and Achoubi (72) to 15 days in judicial custody for further interrogation, which the court accepted.
The IO also made another prayer to the court for remanding Rocky, his sisters Sarita, Omita and his niece Laishram Bhumika (21) to 5 days in police custody, which the court also upheld.
