Imphal, January 13 2025: Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipuri War 1891 Martyrs and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak (Manipur) office bearers for the 2025-28 tenure took oath on Monday administered by historian professor (retired) N Joykumar.

After taking the oath, all the functionaries went to the sacred Kangla and sought blessing.

Regarding the oath-taking ceremony, Justice Committee chairman Joychandra Konthoujam said forefathers of Manipur fought the mighty colonial British without any fear to defend the land themselves.

He reminded that many valiant forefathers defeated in the Anglo-Manipuri War 1891 were either hanged till death or exiled to Kalapani jail.

"Prior to the war, the British interfered into, the internal affairs of Manipur' to colpnise the land.

However, brave forefathers of the land challenged the mighty British and beheaded five British officers including political agent inside Kangla," he recounted.

"Such incident never happened anywhere in India and the British declared war against Manipur on March 31, 1891 .

Forefathers ofthe land also prepared for the war with the thought that it is better to live independently at least for one day than to live under subjugation.

This was the message forefathers of the land left for future generation and it is responsibility of the sons and daughters of the land to carry forward this message," Joychandra stressed.

According to Joychandra, the Government of India fully understands that Manipur is a nation with courageous and patriotic people.

"As such, the Government of India has been suppressing the people of Manipur for a long time using different tactics with present day tactic being the war waged against the Meetei community by employing Kuki militants," he claimed.
