Imphal, April 15 2025:
As part of Operation Sadbhavana, the Indian Army distributed 40 bicycles to female students from various schools in Leimakhong area to address educational challenges in rural Manipur.
Noting that for many students in remote regions, the distance between home and school serves as a major barrier to regular attendance, a PRO Defence release stated that by easing daily commutes it is expected to encourage higher enrolment, reduce dropout rates, and instil a renewed sense of confidence and independence among the recipients.
A formal handover ceremony was held at P Moulding village, attended by GOC Red Shield Division Maj Gen Sameer Sharan Kartikeya, Priya Kartikeya, chairperson of Family Welfare Organisation of the Division, senior army officials, village leaders and locals.
In his address, Maj Gen Kartikeya affirmed the Army's commitment to creating a more supportive environment for women and children.
He emphasised the objective of fostering social harmony and facilitating development through such initiatives in remote areas.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Nengngaikim Kuki, a student of Class 8, expressed her gratitude.
"These are not just bicycles - they are symbols of mobility, empowerment, and a brighter future for every girl," she said.
