Imphal, May 27 2014: Raising objection against the proposed introduction of a Cen- tralised Admission System (CAS) for the eight Government Higher Secondary Schools (GHSS) located in Imphal area, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has said that CAS would further aggravate the already frail condition of these schools.

In a press statement, DESAM said that students are still clueless and doubtful regarding the basis of ad- mission under CAS.

Moreover, considering the nature of fixing cut-off marks by the Directorate of Education (S) for Class XI admission, it is likely that less number of students would turn up or get admission in GHSSs, the state- ment speculated.

Urging the Directorate to clearly spell out the basis of admission at the earliest, DESAM said that the student's body would object Govt's move if admissions are to be done on 'mark basis'.

Justifying their stand, DESAM said that there are differences not only in the marking systems of BO-SEM and CBSE but also in the nature of conducting examination in the centres of Imphal and farflung areas.

Alleging that the Directorate and BOSEM had failed to equally check using of un-fair means in all the exa- mination centres, DESAM said that mass copying and using unfair means were rampant in many centres lo-cated at farflung areas where flying squads could not reach.

As such, making 'percentage of marks' as the basis of admission would be undesirable, the press statement said and added that the new system would reduce the number of students who aspire to take admission in GHSSs.

DESAM said that the Government must first find out the reason why students turn away from Government schools rather than introducing CAS.

Urging the Directorate to revoke the decision on CAS, DESAM demanded that entrance examination be made the basis for admission to three streams of Class XI in Government Higher Secondary Schools.
