End blockade or surrender, UCM tells Govt; SPF Govt certified a flop

Imphal, September 26 2011: The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has asked the State Government to get the blockade lifted immediately or take up legal action without any delay.

In a strongly worded press statement, the UCM asked the Government to surrender to SHDDC and UNC, and let someone who can tackle the issue succeed them.

The State Government should use all its resources and wits to bring a solution to the crisis instead of singing to the tunes of New Delhi, otherwise people may be compelled the teach the irresponsible Government a very bitter lesson.

It would be in the best interest of all to bring a solution to the crisis before a civil war breaks out.

Denouncing the State Government for completely ignoring the memorandum and the reminder it submitted on August 27 and September 14 on the the Sadar Hills district demand and the subsequent impasse, the UCM asserted that the incumbent Government is not for the people.

At the instruction of New Delhi not to enrage UNC or confront the Kukis, the State Government has been waiting for the election code of conduct to come into force.

Whereas the Khongjai brethrens have little remorse in blocking highways, vandalising vehicles and even killing driver and when they decided to arm themselves to fight a decisive battle for Sadar Hills district, the State Government ordered seizure of licensed guns.

Again the State Government ordered arrest of agitators but it could not turn its own order into action.

It was the same case last year when Guwahati High court ordered the arrest of UNC and ANSAM leaders.

There was no reason why the State Government should not face contempt of Court charge.

Again the Government sanctioned Rs 93 lakhs to procure goods from Silchar to distribute to public only after AMSU started an intensive drive against hoarding and price hike.

Further, the Government arrested student volunteers for the same drive against hoarding and price hike.

While all movements of are being blocked in hill districts, whatever goods available in the Imphal are being taken to hill districts.

But when women volunteers blocked transportation of goods away from Imphal, police came out with all their brute force and assaulted the unarmed women activists.

It is quite apt to say that the so called commandos and IRBs were set up to subdue the people of the valley.

When Khongjais have been claiming that 61.47 per cent of the geographical territory of Manipur belongs to them and dreaming for a separate Kuki Land or Northern Mizoram, the Nagas have taken a strong position not to sacrifice even an inch of their land.

The Nagas have gone a step ahead by demanding alternative administrative arrangement.

After taking out the areas they have been claiming, Nagas and Khongjais are leaving only 7.27 per cent of the whole geographical territory of Manipur for Meiteis at Imphal and the surrounding valley area which are inhabited by all the communities.

The Meiteis have been bearing all these injustices and challenges acting the role of the kind-hearted elder brother.

All these conflicts and confrontations being witnessed in Manipur are abetting the Government of India's game-plan of igniting communal clash and ultimately a civil war in the State.

The UCM further appealed to all the people to remain calm and work collectively to resolve all the outstanding issues amicably under a long term policy based on mutual understanding.
