Three women activists arrested in connection with the agitation for unconditional release of TIPS functionaries L Umakanta and Y Thabi were released this evening without any conditions.
Interacting with media persons soon after their release, the women activists asserted they would wait for the unconditional release of the TIPS duo at the Nongmeibung office of MEEKAL rather than return to their respective homes.
The three identified as irom (O) Kamla (45), Meisnam (O) Memcha and Takhellambam (O) Tombi (40) also affirmed they would continue to take part in further related agitations to press their demand.
They also showed bruise marks received not only during their arrest near the State Assembly Complex but also allegedly inside the custody of City Police station.
Tombi Devi contended that an officer of the police station ordered a lady cop to thrash them inside the lock-up cell.
Despite the women's release there would be no end to the current agitation in case Umakanta and Thabi are not released, affirmed MEEKAL convenor Khangembam Basanta.
Meanwhile, passenger carriers plying on the Imphal-Tiddim Road will cease service from 5 am till 6 pm of September 28 in solidarity with the ongoing agitation for unconditional release of the TIPS functionaries, said a release of Manipur Transport Joint Coordinating Committee.
