For all major projects proposed to be taken up in the State, the State Government must consult the people and seek their consensus besides necessity for both the State and Central Governments to study demerits and merits of the projects before they are implemented with active participation of the people, said a resolution adopted during a public meeting on Tipaimukh Dam at New Checkon today.
The meeting was organised by Forum for Coordination in Development and Voluntary Action For Social Upliftment.
It also adopted a firm resolution that the proposed Tipaimukh Dam, being pursued vigorously by both the State and Union Governments without the consent of the people of Manipur and in total disregard of guidelines laid down by the World Commission on Dams, must be scrapped immediately.
Another resolution of the meeting pertains to rescinding the MoU signed between the Government of Manipur and NEEPCO for construction of Tipaimukh project which would inundate 7252 square kms for the State's share of just 43 MW of power.
The meeting was attended by retired Principal Apabi Singh and retired Deputy Director (Industries) S Kullachandra as the chief guest and president respectively.
The public meeting was addressed by convenor of ACTIP Kinderson Panmei, co-convenor O Bikramjit and Ch Memi of CSD as resource persons.
