Imphal, May 22 2023: On account of the ethnic violence which erupted on May 3, altogether 39,405 displaced people are currently taking shelter at 235 relief camps.

District-wise break up is: 1.Imphal West (6 camps-649 persons), 2.Imphal East (40 camps - 8,015 persons), 3, Thoubal (12 camps - 911 persons), 4.Bishnupur (54 camps %- 8,123 persons), 5.Churachandpur (41 camps -11,455 persons), 6.Tengnoupal (9 camps 1,463 persons), 7.Kakching (2 camp 192 persons), 8.Jiribam (4 camps - 117 persons), 9.Kangpokpi (57 camps- 8,000 persons) 10.Ukhrul (1 camp - 38 persons), 11.Senapati (1 camp - 22 persons), 12.Kamjong (8 camps -420 persons) .

Briefing media persons today, Kuldiep Singh, Security Advisor to the Government of Manipur, claimed that normal situation prevails in most districts with curfew relaxed for 11 hours from 5 am to 4 pm in three districts viz; Jiribam, Bishnupur and Kakching, nine hours in Imphal West district from 5 am to 2 pm, eight hours in Imphal East from 5 am to 1 pm, 10 hours from 5 am to 3 pm in Chandel and Churachandpur, 12 hours from 5 am to 5 pm in Thoubal, five hours from 6 am to 11 am in Kangpokpi, sevens hours from 7 am to 2 pm in Tengnoupal and 12 hours from 6 am to 6 pm in Pherzawl.

There is no curfew in Tamenglong, Noney, Senapati, Ukhrul and Kamjong.

So far, 38 persons have been arrested and 2501 FIRs registered at different police stations including 826 in Imphal West district, 687 in Kangpokpi and 56 in Churachandpur.

Number of deaths is 73 out of which 41 are confirmed to be related with the present violence.

The number of injured reported is 246.The number of arson cases is 1,827, Kuldiep said.

Out of the 1,070 arms snatched from security forces, 494 arms have been recovered.

More arms were recovered during the last few days and effort is being made to recover remaining arms, he said.

The Security Advisor said that Deployment of Army/AR/CAPF/local police is effectively done with more deployment in the fringe.

A total of 64 coys of CAPF arc deployed.

Flag march and area domination exercises are being carried out widely.

Search operations were also conducted in vulnerable areas.

159 loaded trucks (Diesel-01, LPG Bullet-06, Cement-31, FCI-4, Transport-117) left Jiribam for Imphal today at about 7 am.

There are l05 loaded trucks still stranded at Senapati.

More deployment is being made along NH-37 to prevent unwanted incidents particularly in the Kotlen to Tupul stretch.

An abandoned workshop at Ngangkha Lawai, Moirang was burned by some miscreants today at about 12.45 pm.

The workshop was earlier run by a Kuki.

No one was hurt.

Seven persons were detained by Army and handed over to District Police Bishnupur.

Later on they were released after verification, he said.

On May 21 at about 10.35 pm, some armed Kuki miscreants came towards Moidangpok village, Imphal West and fired some rounds from a single bore gun towards the villagers who confronted them.

In that, three persons namely Th Deepak (35) s/o Th Mangi of Moidangpok Awang Leikai, Khangembam Kiran (30) s/o Kh Nabachandra of Moidangpok Mayai Leikai and Yengkhom Naoton (23) s/o Y Birchandra of Moidangpok Maning Leikai received pellet injury.

After the incident a combined teams of Manipur Police Commando, 33 AR, 1701 BSF (C-COY) and Patsoi PS conducted a cordon and search operation in five different villages- NKM Kuki village, Sinam Khaithang village, Haibung Kuki village, T Mangjal Kuki village and Longjang Kuki Village.

In that one person namely Chungkhomang Kipgen of Sinam Khaithong village was apprehended along with one single bore arm.

At around 1.30 pm yesterday, seven persons belonging to Ukhongsang were apprehended by 33 AR in connection with arson at Haokhong village and handed over to Nongpok Sekmai PS .

At around 1.30 pm yesterday, the Security Advisor, the Chief Secretary along with the DC and the SP of Kangpokpi met CSO leaders of Kangpokpi (around 25 nos) at 22 AR camp, Kangpokpi.

Wide range of issues related to the present situation were discussed and appeals were made to make efforts toward restoring peace and normalcy and to resolve issues through dialogue.

Kabib K, IGP Intelligence chaired a meeting at Churachandpur yesterday which was participated by the Churachandpur DC, SP, CO of 106 RAF, SP Pherzawl, CO 1st IRB and 5 members of ITLF.

Appeal was made to the ITLF members to resort to peaceful means to resolve the present law and order situation.

The ITLF members were ready to meet the Security Advisor and place their concerns and demands for discussion.
