Issuance of Aadhar card to outsiders : IPAK rings out caution for all

Imphal, February 02 2015: Even as a movement for implementation of ILP or similar legislation to protect the indigenous people of the State is on, possession of Aadhar card has become the easiest way to become citizens of India for many Bangladeshi and Myanmarese immigrants.

This was stated by Sapamcha Jadumani, chairman, Indigenous People of Kangleipak (IPAK) during a press meet held at the IPAK office this evening.

He said that volunteers of IPAK, during a drive to check the increasing number of outsiders and verify their identities which was started from Jan 28, found many outsiders in possession of Aadhar Card with their permanent address given as Manipur.

During the drive, Jadumani said, Aadhar cards of eight migrant women who appended their permanent address as FCI Godown, Sangaiprou were caught.

Asserting that IPAK is not against the possession of Aadhar cards by outsiders as it is the right of every Indian to get their Aadhar card, Jadumani said the organisation is more concerned about the holders giving their permanent address in the card as Manipur.

Pointing out that FCI Godown at Sangaiprou is not a residential place where only a few kutcha houses are built to temporarily accommodate FCI labourers, he categorically questioned who had issued the Aadhar cards to the migrant women.

He also asked who had authorised the migrant labourers who are staying inside the FCI Godown premises to use the place as their permanent address.

Manipur being a border State, influx of migrants from neighbouring countries like Mayanmar and Bangladesh is increasing day by day.

For these migrants, possession of Aadhar card becomes the easiest way to become citizens of India thus allowing them a free stay in the State, Jadumani said.

He also said that it is very easy for people coming from other parts of the country or from neighbouring countries to get an affidavit by spending just Rs 100 and without going to the Court.

He further asked the authority concerned like AMBA to check unauthorised issuance of affidavits to those who are coming from outside the State.

Notwithstanding the movement for implementation of a law to safeguard the indigenous people of the State, many landlords rent their houses to outsiders besides helping their tenants get their Aadhar card by allowing them to take their surname, he alleged.

He also alleged that many politicians also help the outsiders to enrol their names in the electoral roll just for the sake of using them as their vote bank.

He also said that the State Government and every section of people should take responsibility of checking such activities and also appealed to all concerned to stop such activities.
