Stepping up its counter insurgency operations, Manipur Police have arrested many UG cadres belonging to different outfits in the last two/three days.
According to a statement issued by S.Gautam Singh, MPS, SP/NAB, Manipur �cum- PRO, Police Department, Manipur, on 18/08/2014, a team of Imphal East District Police commando unit arrested 1 active member of KNF(N) namely, Seikhochon Doundel @ Chochon (31) yrs S/o Thonglal Doungel of Langol Housing Complex, Type-II from the northern gate of Tribal colony, Old Checkon.
One mobile phone handset with two SIM cards and one hand grenade were seized from his possession.
On his disclosure, one of his associates, namely, Thanglal Haokip @ Boipu S/o Zamkholam Haokip of Tingkai Khullen Village, Sadar hills of KNF(N) was also arrested from Langol Game village Zone-III.
One mobile phone handset along with one SIM card was seized from his possession.
Investigation revealed that both of them were involved in extortion of huge amount of money from several village heads, private firms, etc.
and transported arms, ammunition and explosives from place to place on several earlier occasions.
A case has been registered at Porompat Police Station and investigation is going on.
The PRO further informed that on 19/08/2014, based on reliable information about the movement of armed cadres of UNLF in the general area of Langathel, a combined team of Thoubal District Police commando unit and 2 Assam Rifles conducted frisking and checking in the area.
During the frisking and checking, one active member of UNLF organisation, namely, Mayanglambam Lali @ Pinnaheiba @ Pidongba (31) yrs S/o M.Laiba Singh of Kakching Khunou Hijam Sana Khongnang Leika was arrested.
One pistol loaded with 2(two) live rounds in the magazine was seized from his possession.
A case has been registered at Kakching Police Station and investigation is going on.
On 19/08/2014 again, based on reliable information about the movement of active workers of PREPAK (PRO) in the general area of Haokha,, a combined team of Thoubal District Police commando unit and 2 Assam Rifles conducted frisking and checking at Haokha Maning Thangjam Leirak.
During the frisking and checking, one active worker of PREPAK (PRO) organisation, namely, Pangabam Kepten @ Ingobi Singh (42) yrs S/o P.Ibohal Singh of Haokha Maning Thangjam Leirak was arrested.
One mobile phone handset along with one SIM card were seized from his possession.
A case has been registered at Thoubal Police Station and investigation is going on.
Furthermore, today, based on reliable information, a combined team of Bishnupur District Police commando unit and 2 JKLI conducted search operation at Phougakchao Ikhai Bazar area.
During the search operation, one active member of PREPAK (PRO) namely, Huidrom Ajit Meitei @ Angousana @ Leishemba (32) yrs S/o H.Kesho Meitei of Wangkhem Huidrom Leikai, Thoubal District was arrested.
Investigation revealed that he was involved in extortion of huge amount of money from general public of Nambol area and Pharmacies of Lamphel area for the organisation's fund.
A case has been registered at Moirang Police Station and investigation is going on.
On 19/08/2014, a team of Imphal West District Police Narcotic Cell seized 3(three) plastic packets containing opium (Kani) weighing about 1(one) Kg each packets, worth about Rs.3,00,000/- (Rupees three lakhs) from the possession of one Lalthang Thouvum (48) yrs S/o (L) Thangkholun Lhouvum of Motbung Bazar, Sadar hill, Senapati District, who was arrested from near Kasturi Bridge, Nagamapal.
A case has been registered at City Police Station and investigation is going on, the PRO added.
