Imphal, September 20 2022: Under the joint aegis of National Council of Educational Research and Training, New Delhi and Samagra Shiksha, Manipur, a three-day orientation cum training programme on Financial Literacy and Numeracy of NIPUN key mentors (FLN-NIPUN Bharat) commenced from Tuesday at Hotel Imphal, North AOC.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Education (S) director and Samagra Shiksha, Manipur state project director L Nandakumar recalled that National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat) was launched by the Union ministry of education on July 5, 2021 as a part of National Education Policy, 2020 and further pointed out that the vision of NIPUN Bharat is to create an enabling environment to ensure universal acquisition of foundational literacy and numeracy, so that every child achieves the desired competencies in reading and writing and numeracy at the end of grade III.

In Manipur also, it has been launched on September 5, 2021 by the chief minister with the aim of ensuring every child in the state attains foundational literacy and numeracy by the end of class 3 i.e., by 2026-27 .

The same programme was also launched in all the 16 districts of Manipur simultaneously, he added.

After the implementation of NEP 2020, the education system in Manipur will completely change and it will be from the student-centric point of view.

Freedom to choose will give the confidence to the students for they will have to choice to learn according to the skill and inborn talent and will be more successful in their life, Nandakumar observed, while adding that the foies of key mentors are unique but flexible because their duty is to give necessary input to the mentors and the school teachers by pronouncing all models to decipher necessary contents to students.

Above all, strategy management, assessment technique and its periodicity should be made simpler but result should be at optimum level by all mentors.

Mentor is the guide, advisor and counsellor of the FLN teachers assigned to him/her.

He further explained that the main objectives of organising the training programme for the key mentors is to provide necessary training to school mentors in tune with national guidelines, select capable mentors at cluster and block level for primary grade and provide necessary inputs for achieving the goals of FLN by all the children.

Moreover, the roles and responsibilities of the key mentor are very important for the successful implementation of NIPUN Bharat Mission in the state, he added.

The inaugural function of the training programme was also attended by Samagra Shiksha Manipur additional state project director (Elementary) Alfred Jamlallun Khaute, finance controller Arif Mujahid Khan, NCERT New Delhi DEE Prof Sandhya Sangai, NERIE Shillong's Dr Sarajubala and NIEPA New Delhi's Dr Charu Malik as the presidium members.
