Time-bound probe by SC must: Heijiang Misao

Imphal, May 19 2023: Social activist Hejiang Misao highlighted the need for time-bound judicial enquiry monitored by Supreme Court to find the root cause of the ethnic clash and for bringing normalcy in the state.

Speaking to media persons in an area between Dolaithabi and Utonglok villages on Friday, Hei-jiang recounted that Kukis took vital roles for protecting Manipur.

However, it is unfortunate that Kukis are termed as immigrants and refugees, he said.

While observing that many people from Myanmar might have fled their country and sneak into the state because of the po-litical crisis in the neighbouring country, he continued that such act of taking refuge because of war by crossing international boundary is common phenom-enon.

However, allegations of settlement of new Kuki villag-es are baseless, he maintained, while informing that several Kuki villages were rooted out in the past, with apparent reference to the Kuki-Naga clash in the 1990s.While pointing out that the suspicion over new Kuki set-tlement might actually be the displaced people returning to their ancestral villages, Heijiang reasoned that as Manipuris where would the Kukis live other than Kuki inhabited areas.

Condemning the government for not protecting them, Heijiang said that the government was considered as people's govern-ment but it is a valley-centric government.

As peace and tranquility in the state has been destroyed by some miscreants, the govern-ment should punish them.

More-over, the demand for separate administration by 10 Kuki MLAs is because they were unsatisfied with the government, he con-veyed and remarked that some external forces are plotting divi-sion of Manipur every individual irrespective of the community should work for bringing peace and normalcy.

Moreover, a time bound judicial enquiry monitored by Supreme Court for finding genesis of the conflict is a must for bringing peace and normalcy in the state, Heijiang reiterated.

Meanwhile, former Sadar hills ADC member Thangkam Lupheng contended that the present governments since the beginning of its governance termed Kuki as non-indigenous.

Consequently, such conflict oc-curred.

So, the government is fully responsible for the conflict, he asserted.

Despite CM's claim of 'No one is above the law', there is no rule of law in the state, he said, while questioning whether thrashing of MLA even in Imphal area is a reflection of rule of law.

It would not be wrong to state that the government is a valley centric, Lupheng continued, while adding that bringing nor-malcy in the state will be based on the policy of the government.
