UP CM agrees to hand over Pravish case to CBI: PAC

Imphal, December 17 2017: The People Action Committee (PAC) against the brutal killing of Pravish Chanam of Uripok Achom Leikai at Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh) has conveyed that Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has given a written reply to Chief Minister N Biren Singh telling him that he (Yogi Adityanath) has no objection regarding handing over the case to the CBI .

Speaking to media persons at the residence of late Pravish Chanam, the committee's convenor Ahong- shangbam Polen said that CM Biren wrote a letter to his UP counterpart on December 15 after the JAC demanded him to hand over the investigation of the case to the CBI .

The committee along with All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Student Union of Kangleipak (SUK), Youth Forum for the Protection of Human Rights, locals and womenfolk jointly organised a public meeting cum protest on the said day (December 15) at Naoremthong Community hall .

The decision to pressure the authority concerned to hand over the investigation of Pravish Chanam's death to the CBI, was unanimously adopted at the meeting .

Uripok Kangchup Road was also blocked on the day, specially at Uripok Achom Leikai area, protesting the State Government's inaction regarding Pravish's death .

The blockade of the road was withdrawn after some committee members were allowed to meet CM Biren and the two sides arrived at an understanding .

Expressing hope that the State Government, particularly the Chief Minister will do all the needful so as to ensure that the CBI takes up Pravish's death case at the earliest, as UP CM Yogi Adityanath gave his consent regarding the matter, the convenor stated that the committee is ready to resort to various forms of agitation if the State Government does not take up appropriate action in time and resort to delaying tactics .

He further observed that unless the cases of killing and violating the human rights of Manipuris and other North East people in different parts of mainland India are not investigated by the CBI and proper justice is not delivered , the commission of crimes against the North East people will go on continue .

AMSU's president Manjit Sarangthem and leaders of MSF were also present at the meet.
