Sensitisation Programme on Sangai Day held

A one-day School Students' Sensitisation Programme on Sangai Day was organised by Sangai First Foundation (SFF) and New Model Public School, Moirang at the school on Tuesday.
In a release, SFF informed that the event was attended by School founder Dr Kh Yaimchou Singh, SFF managing trustee Dr Kh Samungou Singh and trustee K Jugeshor Singh as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, K Jugeshor outlined the objectives of the programme, which is part of a year-long initiative aimed at reaching out to schools each month, as resolved during the Sangai Day celebration on December 10, 2024 .
He deliberated on history and significance of Keibul Lamjao and the Sangai census, both aerial and ground, and encouraged the students to take on the responsibility of spreading the message of Sangai conservation to their families, friends, neighbours, and communities.
Dr Kh Samungou highlighted the importance of socio-cultural heritage and environmental education, especially in relation to Sangai.
He shared insights on the declaration of Keibul Lamjao as a park and sanctuary, the status of the state animal, the condition of the 'Phumdis', and the impacts of the Ithai Dam on the Keibul Lamjao National Park and its habitat Sangai.
During the programme, six students were selected through a spot quiz test.
These students will be awarded during the next Sangai Day celebration on December 10 .
The day's programme concluded with a pledge taken together with teachers and students for the conservation of Sangai.
