Instruction issued to remove unauthorised hoardings

Imphal, December 16 2022: The home department has issued instruction for removing statues, advertisement hoardings, signboards, banners, etc., in public places including government buildings, structures and roadsides along national highways and state highways, which were installed without obtaining prior permission from the government.

A notification issued in this regard on Thursday by commissioner (home) T Ranjit stated that display of such materials along National Highways, State Highways, other Roads cause lots of inconvenience and distraction of mind to the general public.

It has also been found that such statues, advertising hoardings, signboards, banners are also displayed and put up in private places with contents, which are considered objectionable and unacceptable under any circumstances.

It then directed DCs concerned to remove all such hoardings, structures and displays put up at public places falling under their respective jurisdiction immediately in public interest without any further delay.

The order shall not be applicable in case of advertising hoardings, signboards, banners displayed on private properties, subject to appropriateness of the content.

Owners of the land/property shall be held responsible for any hoarding or display put up on private property/land.

All DCs are also directed to remove those hoardings, sign boards, banners with objectionable contents (if any) put up at private places by issuing necessary notices to the owners of the private lands/properties falling under their respective jurisdiction within 15 days.

Violation of the order will attract legal actions and appropriate penalties as per law, the order added.
