Imphal, September 18 2024:
World Bamboo Day founder Kamesh Salam highlighted the importance of bamboo not just as a solution to the challenges posed from deforestation and soil erosion but also the pressing need for promoting renewable resources and eco-friendly materials during World Bamboo Day 2024 observance in Chiang Mai, Thailand on Wednesday.
In his speech, Kamesh stated that observance of the day, which they initiated to raise global awareness about the importance of bamboo, has grown in ways they never imagined.
'Today, it is a beacon for sustainable development environmental protection, and economic empowerment', he said.
The founder pointed out that the vision has become a global movement, with bamboo-based industries flourishing across continents and governments recognising its value in green economies.
Stating that this year's theme 'Developing bamboo value chain with SDG goals' could not be more fitting, Kamesh noted that from Thailand to Africa, from Latin America to Europe, and across Asia, bamboo renaissance is being witnessed.
He urged all to join hands for exerting pressures on the United Nations (UN) to declare World Bamboo Day as an International Day on bamboo in recognition of its importance.
