Manipuris in Pune observe Patriots Day

As part of the observance of 123rd Patriots' Day to commemorate the sacrifices made by brave Manipuris on August 13 in 1891, Association of Manipuri Diaspora (AMAND), Pune and Manipur Students' Association, Pune (MSAP) jointly organised a function at Arihant Institute of Management Studies in Pune on Wednesday.
A large number of Manipuris residing in Pune paid their homage to the martyrs like Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General and Paona Brajabasi during the function which was attended among others by Maj.

Giving the keynote address, M.Anthony, President of MSAP said, "The observance Patriots' Day in this metro city not only reminds us of the relentless strength and valor of our forefathers but also modulates our courage to serve our motherland" .
In his speech, N.Giridhar Singh, Jt.
Secretary of AMAND, emphasized the need for reassurance towards the welfare of the state as a mark of respect to the brave forefathers of the land.
He also called upon the gathering to unitedly resolve to bring in the ideals cherished by the gallant forefathers of Manipur.
Two minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls.

K.Y.Singh (Retd) Vice President, AMAND, Pune said on this occasion, "History is the clear example that if there is no unity in the country, outside power would seize the opportunity to enslave and rule over them" .
He also stressed the need to redefine the meaning of patriotism and opined that "the true tribute to our heroes is what you do for peace, progress and prosperity of the state not only by the floral tributes" .
The function ended with the votes of thanks delivered by S.K.Shethon, Gen.
