Cong workers burn effigy of CEC

Imphal, September 28 2026: Congress workers and leaders burnt the effigy of ECI chief Gyanesh Kumar in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East at Porompat today.

During the protest demonstration, organised by the Imphal East District Congress Committee and Sawombung District Congress Committee, party members and workers were seen holding placards and raising slogans demanding the arrest of the Chief Election Commissioner of India.

Even as protesters were marching towards the DC office complex, police were seen blocking the road.

The protesters managed to break through the police and eventually managed to reach the gate of the DC office complex, where they burnt two effigies of the Chief Election Commissioner.

About the protest, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice president Md Amin Shah said that it was organised to save democracy.

Shah accused the chief of the poll body of facilitating vote theft for the BJP, and deleting voters through the SIR (Special intensive Revision of electoral rolls) to make BJP win elections.

He alleged that the ECI chief, Gyanesh Kumar, and the BJP have undermined and diluted democracy.

The Congress party will continue protesting until Gyanesh Kumar is arrested and action is taken against him, Shah said.
