MPP, NCP, JD (U) strike pre-poll pact

Imphal, December 26 2011: With the avowed objective to defeat the ruling Congress party in the forthcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly election, MPP, NCP and JD (U) have forged a pre-poll alliance and this was formally announced during the 44th foundation day of MPP held today at BOAT, Palace Compound today.

Speaking at the occasion, MP Legislature Wing leader Okram Joy stated that MPP established in 1968 is one of the oldest political parties in the country.

Political analysts may assume that regional and local parties have narrow political views but MPP has a totally different political principle.

The erstwhile sovereign kingdom of Manipur was merged with India in 1949 .

The then Manipur State Congress was lobbying hard with the Indian National Congress in the hope that the merger would bring about development and a dignified life in the State.

However, the Government of India belied the same hope by putting Manipur as a Part C State of the Indian Union.

Even as India has completed 63 years as a sovereign country, real development still eludes Manipur, Joy remarked.

The then political leaders who were in the fold of Congress came out and set up MPP to save the land.

The same Congress party which humiliated Manipur signed an agreement with a body called UNC declaring that the campaign for Naga integration was neither anti-national nor unconstitutional.

It was in continuation of this agreement that the proposal for Supra State body was reportedly put forward.

Remarking that the protracted economic blockade was a sign of total absence of governance, Joy asserted that suspension of the economic blockade just before the Prime Minister and the UPA Chairperson visit to the State exposed that the Centre had its hands in the blockade.

NCP Manipur president Radhabinod Koijam stated that NCP despite being a national party has been working in the interest of North East region.

The NCP has adopted a firm resolution to join hands with MPP in the regional interest and defeat the Congress party.

The NCP has its own stance to safeguard the integrity of Manipur at all cost and also to resolve all kinds of conflict through dialogue.

JD (U) National general secretary Arun Kumar stated that it is the duty of all the people to defeat Congress party not only in Manipur but also in the entire country.

The function attended by around 3000 people was also participated by MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang and advisors Dr L Chandramani and Th Chaoba.
