Biwajit looks to shorten land routes

Imphal, September 16 2019: RD & PR Minister Thongam Biswajit has said that a survey to create/construct necessary infrastructure to shorten the land routes for connection between the valley districts will be initiated soon.

The Minister has also asked all concerned to work towards fostering development in the State and to be well prepared in advance to reap maximum benefits from Act East Policy when the Trans-Asian Highway, railways and air connectivity between the State and South East-Asian countries materialises.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of a factory of Golden Trans Power at Tera Urak Industrial Estate in Bishnupur district today, Biswajit said that the land routes connecting the valley districts is quite detouring forcing the commuters to take a long time in travelling from one district to another.

He went on to assert that a survey to create/construct necessary infrastructures to shorten the land routes between the valley districts will soon be conducted.

Biswajit added that the people of the State should pave ways for themselves to bring the needful transformation and in turn bring development in the State.

Questioning why the State should rely on the products of other States if the same products can be produced here, Biswajit, who is also the Minister for Textiles, Commerce and Industries, observed that there will be tremendous changes in the State if the people to use their own resources, including human resources.

While pointing out that certain neighbouring countries are still relying on the products of other countries, he observed that products from the State could find a great market avenue in those countries if the State products meet the international standards.

Reminding that Mission for Economic Empowerment of Traditional Artisans and Craftsman (MEETAC) in collaboration with NID, Ahmedabad had created souvenirs and crafts map of the State which were launched very recently, Biswajit said that the society and Government should encourage the artisans and craftsmen of the State and give due recognition to their works in the effort to preserve, enhance and promote the local products.

He then claimed that MEETAC will take a central role in this year's edition of the Sangai Festival thereby producing many beautiful handicraft products of the local artisans and craftsmen.

Lauding the role taken up local entrepreneurs in the industrial sector, the Minister maintained that certain quantities of the products produced by Golden Trans Power and other local entrepreneurs will be procured by the State Government.

Claiming that such initiative of the State Government is generating employment for the people of the State thus mitigating the unemployment problem, he asked the entrepreneurs to explore and adopt the best things form the outside world.

He also said that he had already highlighted various aspects and needs about the State's development and had already approached the Ministry concerned to build a logistic park in the State in a recently held National conference/conclave.

Asserting that 43 percent of the travellers, including businessmen from South East Asian countries, will travel through the Trans Asian highways, railways and air connectivity to Manipur and other North East States under Act East Policy when the said transportation projects materializes, the Minister asked all concerned to foster development in the State and also to be well prepared in advance to reap maximum benefits from the Act East Policy.

Addressing the gathering, Managing Director of MSPDCL, L Priyokumar Singh stated that at present 20 transformers of MSPDCL are being repaired at the Golden Trans Power Company, as the repairing unit of MSPDCL is not able to meet the demands.

Out of this, 17 transformers have been repaired without compromising on quality, he said, encouraging the entrepreneurs to follow in the footsteps of the company.

It may mentioned that Golden Trans Power Company was set up last year for developing industrial growth in the State.

The company manufactures electric cables and transformers and it is targeting to cater the requirements of the State Government along with North East region and the Nation as a whole.

The function was also attended by Manipur Pollution Control Board Chairman Dr L Radhakishore Singh, Commissioner (Power) Kh Raghumani and MSPDCL Managing Director L Priyokumar as the president and guests of honour respectively.

Biswajit formally inaugurated the factory of Golden Trans Power and inspected the establishment during the function.
