De-recognise faulty nursing schools : Phungzathang

Imphal, June 11 2013: Noting that some nursing schools have admitted students more than the number prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council, Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing today stated that necessary actions including cancellation of recognition would be initiated against the defaulting nursing schools.

Responding to a call attention motion raised by Andro AC MLA Th Shyamkumar in the State Assembly, Phungzathang Tonsing informed the House that Rabi Nursing School, Ghari has been shut down by the Government because of its administrative irregularities.

Shyamkumar questioned if nursing schools are being set up in Manipur without following rules and regulations.

Rabi Nursing School was first set up at Ningthoukhong before it shifted to Sangaiprou.

From Sangaiprou, it again moved to Ghari.

The school was set up before the Manipur Nursing Council came into being and it was affiliated to Assam Nursing Council at that time.

On learning that seven GNM students and two ANM students were admitted in the school, Health Department went for inspection but the whole set-up seen there was far from being satisfactory.

Subsequently, the school was abolished.

There are nine ANM nursing schools and eight GNM nursing schools in Manipur.

They were set up after the State Government gave them No Objection Certificates and inspected by the Assam Nursing Council at the instruction of the India Nursing Council, Phungzathang stated.

These schools were again checked by the Manipur Nursing Council at the instruction of the Indian Nursing Council.

If any of these schools are found taking greater number of students than the number prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council, their recognition would be cancelled, stated the Health Minister.

He also mentioned that a nursing school located at Lamphel has admitted extra students.

The State Government has set up a nursing college and it has already started its session.

Chief Minister O Ibobi would inaugurate the nursing college on a day suitable to his daily schedule.
