As in previous years, a number of underground outfits of the North East region have called a general strike from 1 am till 5.30 pm of August 15.The general strike will however be shortened at Assam and Kamotapur due to the devastating floods, said the outfits and added that it will last from 6 am to 12 pm of the said day.
In a joint statement, the Kamatapur Liberation Organisation, Manipur People's Liberation Front, Tripura People's Democratic Front and United Liberation Front of Asom have asked the people to boycott and prevent celebration on August 15.The outfits have also appealed to all the people to once again display their solidarity and make the boycott as well as the general strike a complete success.
In view of the devastating floods in Assam and Komatapur, the outfits have also appealed to the entire peoples of the region to stand by the flood affected people.
Assam has been reeling under flood for the past many days.
Issuing a clarion call for unity, the outfits said that the different ethnic groups need to develop an inclusive outlook in search for unity in inter dependence and co-existence.
This is of paramount necessity demanded by the reality in the North East region, which is home to more than hundreds of ethnic groups, it added.
