A bomb planted by unidentified persons near Singjamei Bazar crossing under Singjamei police station was safely defused by explosive experts of Manipur police and troops of 22 Maratha Light Infantry today.
According to information received from the area, the bomb was first discovered by three labourers engaged in drain construction work who are currently staying at a tent nearby.

They came upon the bomb when they returned from public toilet (Sulabh) at around 11:30 am.
The bomb was found planted underneath a heap of sand unloaded only yesterday at around 6.30 pm beside the main road.
When the bomb experts tugged the explosive using rope and hook to take it to a safer place, the bomb did not explode.
Later, at around 3.30 pm experts of 22 Maratha LI assisted by State police bomb experts defused the same safely by using gelantine stick.
The local made explosive was found containing gun powder, bolts and small iron balls.
Meanwhile, AMSU Singjamei Branch, in a statement, termed the planting of explosives at crowded places as an act of senselessness, whether it was by UG groups or SF.
Strongly condemning the act, the student body questioned the motive behind the act saying that had the bomb exploded, it could have been more disastrous than that of ISKCON.
In the same vein, a joint statement issued by Meira Pabi Nupi Lamjing Lup, Chirom Leikai and Leimarel Apunba Lup Chongtham Leikai has conveyed serious concern over planting of powerful explosive at a thickly populated areas like Singjamei.
It further appealed to all concern not to undertake such disastrous activities in future.
Meanwhile, the Singjamei Meira Paibi Apunba Lup has asked all concerned to clarify on the act and has appealed to refrain from any terrorist activity.
It also urged the State Government to complete the road construction work at the earliest as the existing structure has become a source of many fatal accidents.
