Imphal, May 31: After making spot inspection of the Central Poultry Farm, Mantripukhri and Regional Broiler Project, Porompat Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Minister Md Alauddin Khan pledged to revive these units within a month.

Citing non-clearance of bills to contractors engaged in fodder supply to the Farm and the project for the last 2/3 years resulting in closure of the units, the Minister informed of the Ministry of Agriculture releasing fund for installation of requisite infrastructure to reactivate the units.

Such initiative of the Central Government entails spot assessment of existing infrastructure, said Alauddin in reference to his personal inspection of the Farm and Project sites today.

The Union Agriculture Ministry has already provided Rs 90 lakhs out of which Rs 45 lakh each are to be disbursed to the two units for procuring setter and hatcher machines and other accessories to incubate and produce chicks in bulk, detailed the Minister.

On capacity of the Mantripukhri Farm, Alauddin said over 27,000 chicks used to be produced on completion of incubation period extending to 21 days while addition of new machinery through the Central assistance would increase production of chicks by double the previous record.

Out of the Farm�s allocation Rs 30 had been earmarked for various infrastructural development including purchase of setter and hatcher with the latter items capable to hatching 30,000 chicks having reached its destination, he informed.

Regarding, Regional broiler Project at Porompat, the Minister said machinery having same production capacity as the Mantripukhri farm had been procured and installation work targeted for completion within a month.

After repairing the previous machineries and addition of the new ones capacity of the Porompat project could reach the 60,000 chicks marks, he maintained.

On the balance amount of the Central government allocation for revival of the poultry units, the Minister informed of Rs 30 lakhs intact in the State Account for future utilisation in purchasing eggs from other State firms.

Alauddin further disclosed of Union Agriculture Ministry allocating funds for re-activating the Dairy Farm also located at Porompat and State Government making hectic effort to realise the revival within three/four months time.
